The Sirimon Route is one of the most popular routes on Mount Kenya. Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp
Distance: 9 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Altitude: 2,650m to 3,300m
Elevation Gain: Approximately 650m
Itinerary
- Depart Nairobi early morning (around 7:00–8:00 am).
- Drive through the central highlands to Nanyuki for lunch.
- Continue to Sirimon Gate where park formalities are completed.
- Begin the trek through dense montane forest, home to various bird species and wildlife.
- The trail gradually ascends through giant heather and moorland vegetation.
- Arrive at Old Moses Camp (Judmier Camp) in the afternoon.

- Trek across rolling moorlands toward Ontulili River.
- Continue through Liki North Valley.
- Ascend gradually into the spectacular Mackinder’s Valley.

- Arrive at Shipton’s Camp in the late afternoon.

Summit Attempt
- Wake up around 2:30 am.
- Begin summit trek at approximately 3:00 am.
- Hike slowly through rocky scree slopes.
- Reach Point Lenana around sunrise (6:00–6:30 am).
