Drive west from Nairobi, stopping for a breath-taking view over the Great Rift Valley, and into Maasai land. Lunch en-route and then on to our secluded camp in the Maasai Mara for a sundowner drive in the reserve. Dinner and overnight at a special safari camp inside the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
Wake up for an early morning start to do game drives in the Maasai Mara lasting the whole day. Considered by many to be the most spectacular game park in Kenya, if not all of Africa, the Mara is truly breathtaking. The terrain varies from vast savannah plains to rolling hills and acacia forests. The game is equally varied, with the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant) all accounted for! Your experienced safari guide will show you the best that the park has to offer. Dinner and overnight again at the special safari camp inside the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
After breakfast this morning driven transfer to discover the Maasai way of life today as you explore the Loita Hills region. Accompanied by Maasai warriors, you'll learn about the tribes' nomadic traditions and witness displays of Maasai dances and spear throwing, but equally important, you'll learn about Maasai life as it is lived today. Traveling to a settled Maasai community, there will be time to visit a market, school and, depending on the time of your visit, one or more local community projects. Overnight will be a truly authentic Maasai Camp where you have storytelling round a camp fire, starlit skies and sleep to the sounds of the African night.
After an early breakfast, we bid goodbye to our Maasai hosts then drive for about 4 hours to the Aberdares Range. The Aberdares are one of East Africa's most beautiful yet least explored mountain ranges. Today will be spent exploring this stunning range. Lunch at Mutubio Gate on the west end of the Range followed by a photo stop at the giant Karuru Falls and scenic Gura Waterfall before you embark on a game drive into the game-rich Tree Tops region, where you can hope to encounter lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo. In the late evening you leave the Abderdares via the Eastern gate. Overnight at Rhino Watch Lodge.
After breakfast this morning driven transfer to Mountain Rock Lodge, in the lower foothills of Mount Kenya, in time for lunch. In the afternoon embark on a leisurely cycle ride with your guide to explore the forested foothills and cultivated fields around Mount Kenya. OR CHOOSE THE WALK TO THE MAU MAU CAVES. Return to the lodge in time for supper.
After an early breakfast, set off by a private vehicle for Kisima, passing the equator line along the way. Kisima is the start point for today's ride, which will see you journey through cultivated fields that slowly give way to the savannah plains of the Borana Wildlife Conservancy (keep your eyes peeled for big game while riding through Borana!), and then the forested trails of the Ngare Dare Forest. You camp tonight in the forest at one of our mobile campsites (these are simple camps with dome or A-frame tents and a communal mess area – no electricity!). In the evening, explore the Ngare Ndare canopy accompanied by your guide, before returning to camp for dinner. (Total cycling: 35km)
Continue your bike ride through the Ngare Ndare Forest and out onto the open savannah of the Lewa Down Conservancy (25km), with great game-viewing opportunities along the way. Meet with the vehicles outside of Meru town for the drive back to Nairobi. Lunch break and shower en-route at Mountain Rock Lodge. (Total cycling: 35km).
